what's your design style?

Yesterday I had the pleasure of chatting with a fellow designer from Designer’s Studio and was asked, “What’s your design style?”. It’s the same question I ask my clients and very often their response is, “I don’t have one.” Well, in some ways, I can relate.

Mixing and matching different design styles is part of creating your one-of-a-kind interior space.

There are SO many styles and trends out there, plus quizzes galore telling you which style is your 'perfect' match. The answer may give you some direction, but why limit yourself to a label? Your space is yours and its style will evolve as you do.

My personal style is simple, cozy, clean, and lived in. I prefer function and efficiency over fancy aesthetics, and any decor I style with is purposeful to my everyday life or reflects my life experiences. Both the simple lines of Scandinavian design and the rustic comforts of Farmhouse appeal to my senses and that is what makes the design process fun and interesting. Being open to mixing and matching elements helps you uncover what combination triggers a happy emotion in you, and if you’re not sure where to start, check out my Pinterest board of interior styles to see what lights you up.

I encourage you to save any pins you like to your own style board and to continue pinning images that speak to you. Once you have a few dozen, make a note of any similarities (colors, textures, patterns, material, etc.) and see if you already have pieces in your home that match. Your style board is a great starting point to help you envision the home you want to create. And don’t worry if doesn’t appear right away…you'll know you've landed on it when it feels good, right, and meaningful to you.

When you feel it, let me know…

what interior style(s) on my board are you most drawn to?

If you're in love with one style, you'll love all the parts of it from furniture and lighting to textiles and art. But it's completely natural to love a bit of every style and then craft your own in your home.

Enjoy the journey!
