spring forward / part 1

Spring is almost here.

I used to view spring as an ugly season. Slushy roads. Dreary rain. The need for every outer garment at the ready for cold, wet, or light jacket weather. Ugh.

But after a drawn-out and down-feeling end to winter, this spring feels like a fresh start. Shifting my view has me embracing every extra minute of sunshine and taking in the crisp new air that is spring coming in.

If you’re feeling what I’m feeling, let’s channel that energy into revitalizing spaces in your home. Here are two simple, doable ways to physically manifest a bright step toward spring:

design / refresh a room

These basil plants naturally brighten our kitchen and are super convenient for eating!

Winter hibernation may have you feeling bored or blah with your space. Spring is an ideal time to rejuvenate your home simply by switching things up.

For quick and easy, give decor or photographs a different place to land within a room or swap them for items in another. Adding greenery (faux or real) is a great way to add freshness and vitality around your home.

Want a more dramatic update? Try rearranging furniture to create a new look and flow. Pro tip: I wish I’d photographed all the layouts I tried on my bedrooms growing up, so be sure to take before and after photos to capture the transformation!

organize / time a tidy up

Near the end of your day, set a timer for 10 minutes and do a quick sweep of one room. Not a deep clean or declutter. Just return items to where they belong in the room and send any outliers back to their rightful place.

Once you’re done, note how your tidy space makes you feel. Put together? Relaxed? The next day, note how you feel when you first walk into your tidy space. Calm? Happy? Feel free to add PROUD to your list. It’s a good feeling that can be felt reliably with repetition.

As you repeat (~same time each day works best) you’ll find time to spare on the clock. Add another room to your practice or simply marvel at your neat room and self-made efficiency. The calm you feel will be contagious and carry you far past spring into seasons to come.

how do you welcome spring into your space?

Write in the Comments below, then stay tuned for “spring forward / part 2” and how this coming season offers a clean slate for our mindset and emotional wellness, too.

Until then, I hope you're getting a dose of sunshine wherever you are and remembering to make time to take time for you.

Always,
