show your space some love with a RUG

Have you ever wanted to refresh a room but couldn’t bring yourself to do it? Were you hung up on the cost or time commitment? These are two very normal blocks for not making design changes to your interior space, ones I personally experience so I can relate to the struggle. That said, you don’t have to do a whole room reno to update an area in your home. I believe you can start with what you have and choose one or two additional elements to make your space come together.

Hands down, the one new piece that’s worth the investment to me is a RUG. The colors, texture, and pattern of a rug bring character and warmth to each space in your home, and they anchor the furniture so everything feels grounded not floating in space. A rug can single-handedly change the look and feel of a room or outdoor area, AND there are beautiful, affordable options out there. Here are four areas in my home where the rug helped set up the palette and tone, and completely brought each space together:

our entry rug

This round hand-knotted beauty was the first rug we bought for our home. The circular shape defines the entry with a relaxed, inviting feel, and the natural jute/wool blend is rustic and surprisingly soft underfoot.

the multipurpose room

Remember this space from my multi-room reshuffle? It's a full-time play area and library but occasionally acts as a guest suite. The starry blue abstract rug is whimsical and vibrant, which speaks to all of the roles this room plays.

our outdoor living area

Outdoor spaces deserve some rug love, too! We tested out three and landed on a transitional, tribal pattern in blue. Like our entry rug, it has a relaxed feel and helps keep our patio chairs together and defined from our picnic eating area. (BTW, we’ve finally treated ourselves to some REAL outdoor living furniture…check back in a few weeks to see the update!)

my home office

After living with a repurposed rug for 8 months, my home office was overdue for some rug love. This distressed floral print rug instantly added color and brightness, which excites me to keep going with more DIY updates!

what's your go-to source for rugs?

Loloi is a reputable rug company that has partnered with designers and DIYers to create stunning patterns in timeless colors. Ruggable is excellent if you're in need of something washable (hello kids and pets!). And of course, Target has a plethora of beautiful, budget-friendly rug options, too. Share in the Comments where you like to look for indoor and/or outdoor rugs, and let me know what room you'd love to give some rug love to!

Always,
