our powder room refresh

Ever had a rock hit your windshield? The split-second impact creates a tiny spark that (if not taken care of asap) makes like a shooting star...and rips right across your sight line.

That’s what happened to our powder room sink. Our since retired stone soap dispenser toppled into the porcelain bowl, landing at just the right angle to force a crack...and boy did it star shoot out from there.

Up close view of the one too many cracks in our sink (along with the original granite counter that came with our house).

The good news? It didn’t crack all the way through, so our most used bathroom was still usable.

Even better? I love absolutely NOTHING in this bathroom. My love and I had thought for some time that if we were to do a small-scale reno, this would be the space. Now I typically follow the, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" school of thought, especially when it comes to spending money unexpectedly. And we really only needed to replace the sink. But...we decided to take this soap-sink mishap as an opportunity to go for what we wanted, what we would enjoy DAILY, and start imagining a beautiful updated vanity wall.

Why not!

First step: picking the new vanity countertop and getting on our vendor's schedule. Trades here are super busy now, so we couldn't get in until April. Last Monday, template measurements were taken for the new stone counter and Friday everything being replaced was pulled out!

Now you see it... ...now you don't!

Tomorrow is INSTALLATION! New sink. New stone. New mirror. New light! Here's a sneak peek at what we chose. We want to see how it all looks with the existing cabinets, and if we stick with our plan, we'll be painting them that beautiful dark blue-gray hue.

Our new powder room finishes!

I can't wait to photograph and share how it all turns out. Next post, I'll include specifics on the finishes and fixtures. In the meantime, let me know...

should we keep the cabinets as is or go for it and paint over the original oak?

Give me your honest opinion and let me know if you've taken on a small recent renovation in your home.

Always,
