A home DIY project can feel daunting to start. But when it becomes a necessary repair job, the urgency pushes you forward fast.
We recently needed to address the peeling paint and minor water damage around our front door. Since this past summer was uncharacteristically humid, we pushed this repair to the fall. Unfortunately, that only gave us one open weekend to do it before the remnant rain from Hurricane Helene headed our way.
Projects like this aren't typically what you might choose, let alone want, to do on the first weekend of fall...but you can choose what to make of it.
I learned how to use a detail sander and enjoyed quality time working alongside my husband.
We also, on a complete whim, took this repair as a chance to refresh our front door! (TBH, opting to repaint it the night before we started (yes!) pumped us up to start and finish this project ASAP!)
Urbane Bronze SW 7048 by Sherwin Williams (Color of the Year 2021) for the win!!
With a short timeline, we could have finished faster by just fixing what was urgent, the trim. Choosing to repaint our front door was part of a bigger, more important goal—to transform our dated exterior into a vibe that says, “This is Us”. We’re not financially able to implement any of our design ideas yet, so giving the entrance to our home a fresh color was our way of stepping towards that goal. Moreover, the new bold bronze hue exudes the warmer, more welcoming feel we want anyone entering our home to experience right now.
It might feel risky to recolor your front door but it's a small part of your home. Painting your front door a hue that speaks to you is a brilliant, inexpensive way to bring a part of you into your space, while also serving as a visual reminder of the progress you’re making towards something more…something meaningful to your home story. You hold the power to choose what you want your home to be and when that transformation begins. So, tell me...
what color is your front door painted OR what color would you love it to be?
I'd also love to why that color speaks to you. I hope seeing that color brings you joy and a wave of encouragement to keep going on your home journey. Small or big. Inside or out. Urgent or not. Every step matters. Let this be your nudge to take a leap somewhere in your space today.
