my favourite things / part 1 “design”

Autumn is such a gorgeous season. Vibrant hues. Comfortable climate. It's hands down my fave, and to celebrate I'm sharing a bunch of my favourite things with YOU! First up, who (or what) I’m loving lately in interior design:

Sometimes it's lovely to look down and take in the changing leaves beneath your feet.

design DIYer / angela rose home

”How do you DIY board and batten?” This is the question I googled months ago and what brought me into the design and DIY world of Angela Rose Home (ARH). She has amazing Instagram stories and blog posts that take you through her projects and process so you can follow along and, as she says, "stop pinning, start doing".

I love her grit, humor, and openness about how hard projects are, how long it’s taken to make them happen, and how worth it is to do this for yourself. She is so right and if you haven’t met her, please check her out!

design tool / floorplanner

Various software programs can be used to create detailed drawings and renderings for new build or renovation projects. What if you just want a layout update or aesthetic refresh of a room?

Enter Floorplanner, an online tool that helps you visualize your dream space in 2D, then 3D in one click. You can import an existing blueprint image or draw walls from scratch, then drag and drop furniture and decor from retailers like Arhaus, Crate&Barrel, IKEA, and more. I see it as SketchUp meets Revit minus the time, cost, and training. Floorplanner comes in both free and upgraded versions and has been a great tool for me personally and in my business.

If you want to try your hand at designing your space yourself, give Floorplanner a go!

design read / 'house story' by jasmine roth

I just heard about this book this week on the @athome podcast and immediately put it on my Christmas wish list. So while I haven't read it yet, I foresee it being one of my go-to faves.

House Story is a guidebook for designing your home for you and by you. What draws me to the book is Roth’s intention — to help readers see and imagine their space, and learn simple do-it-yourself ways to realize what they see.

Not convinced? Listen to her interview with Linda & Drew Scott (shout out fellow Canadians!) of @athome and then tell me in the Comments if House Story made it on your wish list.

Each of these design faves resonates with me because we’re all working to spread the same message: Your home is personal. It’s shaped by who you are today, and in turn, is helping shape who you grow to be. You deserve to love your space so you can live well in it.

what’s your go-to for design inspiration?

Is it design magazines? HGTV? Pinterest or Instagram? I love borrowing and bingeing printed mags from our local library and spending a few minutes every weekday morning pinning inspiring pics. Let me know in the Comments what fills your design inspo bucket, AND which of my faves above you're intrigued to check out.

Always,
