A personal note.

In my wildest dreams, I would own a lake house, where our families and friends could come together to year-round to get away, reconnect, and experience a simple life for a little while. On a whim, my love and I decided to ditch our original staycation and take our girls to his aunt's cottage up in Canada.
It was definitely worth the 9-hour drive (with littles) there and back.
I've been to "the cottage" a few times, but my love spent many summer days here growing up. Swimming in the lake. Water skiing with his cousins. Playing horseshoes or speed Scrabble. Indulging in his aunt's delicious baking (always a fresh tin of gingerbread cookies waiting for visitors on top of the fridge!). Next to our own house, the cottage, to him, feels like home. So, of all the dreams I could make come true for him and us, a lakehouse would be it. A cozy, serene escape, full of laughter and life.
Until then...
...we have the excitement of introducing our kids to the cottage traditions. It was really magical to watch this first time and they can't wait to do it all again...much sooner than the 8 years we let pass between visits (oy!). Here's a photo collage of some of the family fun we had.
what's your dream destination?
Mountain retreat? Backpacking trek? Maybe a fun spa weekend? I'm a homebody through and through, so my ideal locale is a place where I can set up a house and enjoy what that area has to offer without much more travel (hence, the cottage!). Let me know in the Comments where you'd love to get away, and if it can't happen just yet, I hope you at least make time to take time for you.
